DIABETIC

FOOT CARE

At The Foot Hub (Podiatry and Healthcare) our team of podiatrists are registered with the Health & Care Professions Council to provide diabetic foot assessments and treatment of at-risk feet.

Why Do Diabetics Need Foot Care?

People with diabetes are particularly prone to foot problems. Raised blood glucose levels, also known as blood sugar, can damage the sensation in your feet.

This can also affect your circulation, which can lead to you getting less blood supply to your feet. Without a good blood supply, you may have problems with cuts and sores healing. You may also get cramps and pain in your legs or feet.

If you don’t get these foot problems treated, they could lead to foot ulcers, infections and, at worst, amputations.

We offer three Types of Diabetic Assessment:

  • Basic Annual Check - this is included annually free of charge for every patient with Diabetes.
  • Basic Annual Check with GP Report - this includes a full report sent directly to your BP with any problems highlighted and any recommendations.
  • In-depth Lower Limb Diabetic Assessment - this includes a

Neurological and Circulatory Assessment.  A Footscan Pressure Analysis to identify any high pressure areas of your feet and an action plan to mitigate any risks. A Footwear Assessment and General Foot Health Advice on how best to manage your diabetes and any potential foot issues. A Full Report will be sent to your GP with any recommendations.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT

History

Your practitioner will take a full medical, medication & lifestyle history if you have never visited the clinic before, or review it if you have. All your information is taken in a private room and stored on our secure database for your privacy & security.

Assessment

Before any treatment, your practitioner will undertake a visual, physical and neuro-vascular assessment of your feet to benchmark the progression of diabetes on your foot health. If required, a treatment plan will made to keep you risk and pain free.

Treatment

Once you and our practitioner are happy with the treatment plan, you will be treated in a clean environment, with sterile instruments (if needed) together with the latest technology so we can provide the highest standard of care in-line with evidenced based medicine.

How many appointments will I need?

Our purpose is to keep our diabetic patients pain free and risk free.

At the initial appointment, diabetic patients have a neuro-vascular assessed so we can ‘benchmark’ them based risk. The risk depends on many factors such as medical history, mobility, disease progression, lifestyle and foot health.

We take all these factors into account and recommended a treatment plan that can vary from monthly to 6 monthly depending on your individual need.

Who can receive this treatment?

With a few exceptions, most people will benefit from a routine foot appointment as we always assess your general and lower limb health together with the treatment we provide.

Routine podiatry is as important as regular dental and optical check-ups in maintaining your general health and wellbeing.
